Before construction can begin on most buildings, there needs to be proof that the structural design will meet the building codes. Our structural design documentation services provides you with all of the required documentation that you need for your site.
What is structural design documentation?
Every commercial building and some residential builds need to have the design draughted and signed off by a certified engineer. This tells local councils that the build meets all pertinent building codes and can proceed to the next stages.
For smaller projects, we may be the only consultant on the job. For these jobs, we’ll ensure that relevant bodies receive all of the proper paperwork in a timely fashion. We always try to keep things simple and straightforward, and aim to minimise additional work that you’ll need to do.
Working on complex sites
For more difficult or complex sites, there may be many different engineering consultants working on various aspects of the job. For projects on electrical sites, for example, we’ll coordinate with electrical engineers. Our primary area of expertise is structural engineering but we can also assist in some other areas if needed.
No matter what kind of job you need us for, we’ll make sure you’re informed and updated every step of the way.
The Process
Each job starts with getting an understanding of your project. We’ll start by doing a deep dive into the project to find out what your specific needs are. From there, we’ll schedule an overview of your site.
Larger projects are split into two stages: Conceptual and Preliminary. For the conceptual stage, we’ll look into big picture aspects to ensure that the overall plan fits into expected guidelines. The preliminary stage is closer to when the work begins to double-check that everything is going to plan and still meets expectations.
Once the designs are done, they’re documented and draughted. This includes AutoCAD design documents as well as any other required documentation. You can then look over and review these documents at any time if you’d like.
Design reviews
Along with creating and draughting our own designs, we can also review designs from other engineering teams. This can be useful if your initial engineer has retired or if the team is from out of town and you want to work with someone local. Our experienced team can look over the designs for issues or updates or simply to have another set of eyes go over them before major work begins. We’ll review documents and make any relevant corretions before signing off.
