Construction observation and monitoring
In order to ensure that the construction meets the engineered design specifications, some sites need an engineer to do construction monitoring.
Having this done throughout the process helps save time and money in the long run by avoiding major fixes later on that would be expensive and time-consuming to remedy late in the process.
What’s involved in construction monitoring?
The main purpose of the construction monitoring and observation process is to check engineered drawings against the designs being built. The engineer isn’t onsite throughout the entire process; they do routine inspections at key checkpoints instead. A certified engineer is required to do inspections at these intervals to check for compliance with the building codes.
Our monitoring process involves inspecting structural aspects of the site to check for compliance. We also inspect groundwork, reinforcements, and other aspects of the build.
The number of inspections will depend on the complexity of the site. More complicated sites will require more frequent and in-depth inspections than simple projects.
For these complicated sites, there are often a number of contractors and inspectors onsite. We’ll work closely with everybody to minimise disruptions and to make sure that everyone knows what to expect for our construction observation process.
What happens if we find an issue?
Because we do thorough inspections at key intervals, we often catch any potential problems before they become serious issues. If we do notice something, we’ll get in touch with the site supervisor right away to let them know. For major issues, we’ll follow up with a reinspection to ensure that it is up to code.
Construction monitoring for other engineers
While we can include construction monitoring for our own structural designs, we can do this for designs from other engineers as well. Often, this is done when the original engineer is from out of town and can’t easily be onsite for observation. We can help by handling these required inspections for you.

Then we’ll deliver our inspection records directly to the council so that you don’t have to worry about it. Our team will work with other people on site to make the process simple and straightforward.
