Peer review

A peer review is the process of having another engineer review designs for accuracy and viability.

Jobs with an overall cost of $1 million in New Zealand require a peer review in order for construction to proceed. This process works as a safeguard to protect your investment by double-checking that all compliance requirements are met. It also gives you piece of mind knowing that multiple engineers agree on the viability of the project.

Peer review process

A peer review should be done by a separate engineering firm from the one that created the designs. This method allows for fresh eyes to look over the documents for errors, concerns, and issues that may have been missed.

At Cole’s Consulting, we can provide peer reviews for structural engineering as well as civil engineering documentation. We can do peer reviews on their own, or in addition to other services such as Construction observation and monitoring.

Once the process is complete and any issues are addressed, the next steps can proceed. From here a producer statement can be created and the work can begin at the site.

Peer review reports

Once we’ve completed the peer review process, we’ll create a report detailing our findings. The report will include a write-up of any questions we have. It will also include our recommendations of things to be looked at further. If we notice any major concerns, we will make sure to bring these to your attention right away. These will need to be addressed before proceeding to the next steps.

Peer reviewing our work

When we create Structural Design Documentation, we will need any of our work peer-reviewed if the expected cost is expected to exceed $1 million. You can choose your own engineer team for this process. If you don’t have anyone in mind, we can recommend local teams that can help with this process.
